Sault came out of nowhere less than two years ago and has already churned out , this being #3. Youve seen it before: anonymous musical collective, pitch black artwork, let the music speak for itself, etc I really didnt want to like this as much as I do.Eachalbumis highly approachable and devoid of pretense, executed entirely on their own terms.Theres so much ground covered, from afrobeat and samba to vintage funk and AM soul to golden era rap and Chicago house; its safe to say whoevers involved have spent their lives devouring and mastering these styles. This sorta quells my 10 year desire for a new Sa-Ra record, although Sault dont really sound anything like them. Check out"Hard Life," "Wildfires," "Sorry Ain't Enough," "Bow" (with Michael Kiwanuka) and "Eternal Life." Bonus points for the mastering which feels lightweight and unoppressive. These have been increasingly hard to get ahold of, especially in North America, so get on top of it. Recommended.
